Schubert – Die schöne Müllerin and Other Songs

Mike Bell (Baritone) – Rachel Fright (Piano) – Charlotte Yandell (Mezzo Soprano)

Following the successful performance of Winterreise in 2017, Mike and Bollington Art Group are again collaborating to perform another of Schubert’s song-cycles ‘Die schöne Müllerin – The Maid of the Mill’. Twenty lyrical song settings of Willhelm Müller’s poetry chart the journey of a young miller along a mystical brook from hope, through joy and eventually on to despair as an ill-fated romance blossoms and whithers. A lighter second half of the concert will include a number of Schubert’s most beautiful and popular songs sung by Charlotte Yandell.

Mike and Charlotte will be accompanied by Rachel Fright. Rachel is an extremely accomplished musician. Her achievements include receiving the Hester Dickson Duo Prize in 2018 to study at the Oxenfoord International Summer School with Malcolm Martineau. Rachel performs regularly across the UK and has been featured on BBC Radio 3, most recently as part of the Music Matters programme. Rachel is also a recent alumna of the Oxford Lieder Festival Mastercourse, where she received tuition from Roger Vignoles and Imogen Cooper. Previously she studied with scholarships to Pembroke College, Oxford and the RNCM, where she was taught by Stephen Savage and David Jones, with regular input from Julius Drake. Rachel is also KEMS choir’s resident accompanist.

Charlotte is a Bollingtonian and a reknowned mezzo-soprano in the Bollington and Macclesfield area. Charlotte graduated from the University of York in January 2019 with a Masters in Music Psychology and is now working for Kiddleydivey, a company that is striving to empower people to lead happier and healthier lives through participation in interactive music sessions. Charlotte has performed in concert halls, theatres and cathedrals across Europe – including Canterbury, Durham, Bath Abbey, Brussels, Ghent and Salzburg. Whilst at university, she performed in the Harrogate International Gilbert and Sullivan Festival, receiving nominations for Best Female Voice and Best Female Performer. Charlotte has also been a guest soloist for Bollington Festival Choir.

Mike is a regular singer and bass soloist with both Bollington Festival Choir and King Edwards Musical Society Choir in Macclesfield. Mike has also given a number of recitals over the years including two performances of Winterreise, Robert Schumann’s Dichterliebe’ & ‘Liederkreis’, ‘Songs of Travel’ by Vaughann Williams, ‘A Shropshire Lad’ by George Butterworth & ‘Let Us Garlands Bring’ by Gerald Finzi. Mike is extremely excited to be performing another Schubert song-cycle and delighted to be performing with such talented musicians and to once again work with Bollington Art Group who bring a new and exciting dimension to a song-cycle recital.

Pink Floyd’s “The Wall” LIVE – Vesbim’s Pink Floyd Show UK

Re-live “The Wall” album, and more. Lights, lasers, music to set alight Bollington Festival19’s spectacular Last Night with music from this talented tribute band.

For this event, seats are not guaranteed but an enlarged dance floor awaits

Vesbim have brought together some of the best North West musicians around who have the talent and desire to replicate the music of Pink Floyd’s The Wall “LIVE” in the greatest detail possible. The band are dedicated to crafting Pink Floyd’s performances with careful attention to every note, inflection, expression, sound effect, on their instruments and voices. In addition to their refined musical performances, there will be the best visual effects of multimedia, projection and lasers, to enhance the live experience. Also as a bonus the band will be playing an extra 90 minutes of Pink Floyd classics from the albums “Wish You Were Here”, “Dark Side of the Moon”, “Animals” & “Meddle.

“To say it was a spectacle, would be doing the entire production a disservice, the projected images timed perfectly to sync with the music , the passion that the singers exude, the instruments; at times becoming an extension of the performer themselves was nothing short of enthralling” – Kat Hilton (Manchester Rocks)

“Vesbim are a collective of upmost magnificence and their next outing should be widely anticipated, whereas this version of The Wall and more should be acclaimed loud, long and lustfully” – Chris High (Sound & Vision)  Liverpool Sound and Vision Rating 9/10
