The Bollington Festival needs you

Volunteers are amazing and you can be amazing as a volunteer for Bollington Festival 2014 and before. Bollington Festival holds a unique record for being the largest community festival run solely by volunteers in the UK and we couldn't keep that accolade without you.

The 2009 festival had 94 events held at multiple venues across Bollington over 18 days and there were over 1200 volunteers involved in that festival! Amazing!

What can you volunteer for? How much time will it take up?

You can volunteer for anything:
  • Stewarding events
  • Marketing
  • Copy writing
  • Graphic design
  • Distribution
  • Profile raising at
    community events
What else could you bring?
  • Fundraising
  • Bid writing
  • Event management
  • Sponsorship activities
More ideas always welcome!
  • Site management
  • Marquee support
  • Stage management
  • Lighting

...and these are only some of the activities volunteers will be doing between now and 2014! Even though this list is not exhaustive, it goes to show that the festival doesn't "just happen" and is a good exponent of the quote "the harder I work the more successful I become". The more well-placed volunteers there are, effectively delivering on the task at hand, the more successful every Bollington Festival will be. What will you be doing for the 50th Anniversary Bollington Festival?

Site management

Site management is a huge responsibility and could become a 24/7 job for the entire period of the festival. This is why we want to have several people to take on different strands of this job because it should be a shared responsibility.

Stewarding

Many people have already offered their time to be stewards for the festival in 2014, but it is amazing how many stewards it takes to ensure nearly 100 events over 17 days can happen without a hitch! We are very pleased to have found a very experienced project manager to take on the logistics of this feat but we still need more people to come forward and volunteer their time as stewards.

What does a steward do? It really depends on the event, but key tasks include:
  • Checking tickets for event entry
  • Ensuring people's safety during a performance
  • Keeping fire exits clear
  • Ensuring orderly entry and exit
  • Help pick up litter
  • Set up and clear away before and after events
There will be other jobs and these will be defined and you will have clear instructions before you have to tackle anything, but one of the best perks of being a steward is that you get free entry to the event you are stewarding!

The festival is in 2014 - why could we possibly need stewards already? Well, in order to build up the funds we need to ensure the festival can go ahead, we have a great looking events calendar we hope will become annual activities, making Bollington even more of a tourist destination than it is already. Some of these events may require the support of stewards to support health and safety requirements. We may also need to call on you as a potential distribution team for the marketing group's activities in raising awareness of everything we are doing.

If all this sounds both worthwhile and fun and you think it also sounds like your kind of volunteering, please send us an email at volunteering@bollingtonfestival.org.uk and let us know whether you want to volunteer your time from now or just for the festival itself.

The festival can't happen without stewards. The more steward volunteers we have the more we can spread the load. Step forward now and tell us how you want to help.
