Artist Claire de Ruiter has designed a 15 metre long dry stone wall and wishing tree made entirely of felt.
Each stone in the wall is made of sheepswool, collected from local farms on the artist’s year long journey travelling the A537 ’Cat and Fiddle’ road from Macclesfield to Buxton.
’Journeys’ took a year to make and has involved others along the way, including farmers, ramblers, rangers and bikers who Claire invited to create their own felt ’stone’. Trapped within each is a drawing or piece of text relating to his or her own personal journey.
Members of the public have also been able to make wishes whilst watching Claire demonstrate her art at the One House Nursery in Macclesfield where she is currently Artist in Residence.
Alongside the wall stands a stunning felted ’wishing tree’, with wishes stuffed inside it’s woollen trunk and branches. Wishes are also embroidered on to the leaves of the tree.
’Journeys’ is exhibited at Bollington Library through out the Festival and is free to view.
