A bit more about the Bollington Festival

The first Bollington Festival, led by Dr John Coope, was held in 1964; and we will be celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2014 with a festival running from Friday 16th May to Sunday 1st June. We're looking forward to 17 days of fun, filled with exciting new projects and the birth of new community groups, in keeping with the festival founders' aims of promoting community involvement and inclusivity.

As well as providing a 'venue' for amateur and professional events in music, drama, literature, photography, art, sport and science (to name but a few); the Bollington Festival has provided the catalyst for a variety of local activities and societies that continue to educate and entertain the community. Some examples of these include: the Festival Players, the Festival Orchestra, the Festival Choir, the Festival Strings, the Festival Music Theatre, the Festival Fell Race, BLOG (Bollington Light Opera Group, not an internet chat page!), the Bollington Brass Band, and the Festival Photography Group. 2009 also saw the introduction of science activities to the Bollington Festival, with a series of educational science events.

In the past, the Bollington Festival has run every four to seven years, with no exact space between and, mainly for financial reasons, no real guarantee that 'the next one' would definitely happen. Our vision is for the assurance of future festivals. As a first step, we want to raise funds for this 50th Anniversary Festival by holding many and varied fundraising events for the enjoyment of the Bollington community. These events will be diverse in order to provide for everyone's interests, from opera to sport to visiting gardens and plenty more besides.

You can play your part – if you have an exciting fundraising idea and are willing to put it into action with our help, you should contact fundraising@bollingtonfestival.org.uk. Find out more about supporting the Bollington Festival.

You can also bring all your friends and family along to all the events we put on to ensure their success…and your enjoyment! Some of our events already have known dates for 2012, and these are listed in the calendar on the events page of this website.
